An important update on Covid-19 and our stores

An update on the Covid-19 virus and our stores

Given the unprecedented situation in the UK regarding the COVID-19 virus we feel that it is important to reassure you that we are continuing to keep our practice clean and safe for both you and our team. We intend to keep the practices open for as long as possible to provide the service that is needed for our patients.

You will appreciate that as an optical practice we work in an environment where the prevention of the spread of a whole range of infections is woven into everything that we do. Nevertheless, we are paying particular attention the latest government guidance on the transmission of coronavirus.

All of the frames on display, the equipment we use and all surfaces are cleaned and disinfected regularly to keep the practice as sterile as needed and as often as needed.

Know the guidance

Before attending the practice for your next appointment, we would be grateful if you would review the most up to date government guidance – just click this link https://www/nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covd19/

Keep us in the loop

Please remember that we are open, as normal, and to call us on the practice telephone number or email us to let us know if you wish to reschedule any of your booked appointments. We would be happy to schedule an alternative date for you.

At your next appointment

Please forgive us if we don’t shake hands – but we are however happy to do the elbow bump – just ask!

You’ll notice that we’ve removed some non-essential items in the reception area including the magazines. They will return once this is all over!

As a team, we are doing everything we possibly can to remain fit, well and able to work so that we can continue to provide our usual high standard of dental care for you.

Thank you for your support in keeping everyone safe.

Meet the team

Our expert team are highly qualified to look after your visual health, and most of them have served with us for over a decade. All our professional staff are registered with the General Optical Council and bound by The Opticians Act to keep their registration in date with constant education and training.

Dr. Claudia Ashleigh

BSc. (Hons.)., PhD., OD., MCOptom.

Claudia is the Company CEO, is fluent in German, speaks a little French and has recently finished researching and trialling Silicone Multifocal Contact Lenses that are designed specifically for people who require distance and reading correction but do not wish to wear glasses. Claudia has a Doctorate in Optometry and, when she gets time between looking after her boys, their home and businesses and garden, is a keen Power Swimmer and tennis player. In 2017, Claudia completed her Doctorate at London South Bank University, specialising in contact lens research and is looking forward to the management of short sight in children and young adults - a method of attempting to control the often-relentless increase in short sight of the growing person. Claudi is an accomplished window dresser, having completely re-designed the front windows at the new Southampton practice.

Mr. Bish Ashleigh

BSc. (Hons.)., MSc. (Clin. Ophthal.)., MCOptom.

Bish is a director at Ashleigh Sight Care, has a Masters degree in Clinical Ophthalmology and has carried out several years of research relating to the Glaucomas and Age Related Macular Degeneration at both Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth and Southampton Eye Hospital. He has accreditation for diagnosing minor eye conditions (MECS) and has Glaucoma and Macular Degeneration shared care certification. Bish is a keen yachtsman, having been successful in passing his RYA Day Skipper (Tidal) exams over the Easter period of 2011 and completed Coastal Yachtmaster training in January 2017. He is occasionally looking to crew, so that he can build up experience and sea miles, but rarely has spare time to make commitments necessary. He completed several Ocean Races in 2013, culminating in a successful race around the tip of Southern Ireland in the Rolex Fastnet Race.

Mrs. Michelle Newton

Mrs. Tamlyn Taylor

BSc. MCoptom.

Tamlyn is an Optometrist with an MECS accreditation for diagnosing minor eye conditions. Tamlyn is originally from Zimbabwe, trained in South Africa and UK and has two boys - one of whom says his mum is good at cooking sausages. She joined us in March 2018.

Lori is a Senior Optical Assistant and has been at the Portsmouth practice for many years, having started when the practice was owned by Ronald Rabbetts, a highly respected clinical in the world of optics. Lori has a keen interest in motorbikes.

Sharon is a Clinical and Optical Assistant and has been at the Portsmouth practice since 2005 and is very experienced in all aspects of optometry, dispensing and reception.

Leigh, said by himself to be the 'beating heart of the business', is the manager of the Bishops Waltham practice and had many years of optical experience before joining us in 2011. He is an expert with designer frames and knows all about lenses, having been involved with them since leaving school. He loves dogs.

Sue is Head receptionist at Bishops Waltham and has been with us for several years.

Taylor is mainly based at the Portsmouth practice, though frequently covers at the other three practices for illnesses and holidays. She is a fully qualified dispensing optician and is an expert in frame and, specifically, all lenses.

Anita is the manager of the Southampton practice and carries out both dispensing and assisting in Optometry duties at the practice. She came to the practice a year after it was opened in 1998 and seems to know everyone in Portswood.

Emma has been an Optical Assistant at the Romsey practice since 2017 and is being urged to go forward in optics by undertaking professional training and courses. These will add to her current experience and will enable her to hopefully obtain a higher diploma in dispensing.

Sue Wilson

Sue is an experienced Optical Assistant and will shortly move as the Fair Oak practice re-locates to Bishops Waltham. Sue since has been in optics for many years, both in management and in dispensing.
